The Community Church of Atascadero
A Peace With Justice / Open & Affirming Congregation
The Mission of our church is to join with God and each other,
- To work together providing an environment open for all to serve God though worship, prayer, education, music and fellowship;
- To develop Christian values and support one another as we share life's experiences;
- To respond with compassion to the needs of others;
- To strive for truth, justice and peace;
- And to do this in the love of Jesus Christ while striving to do
the will of God, as we understand it, in all things.
The CommunityChurch of Atascadero declares itself to be a part of the Peace with Justice Movement.
We commit our congregation to:
1. The advocacy of peace and justice, realizing that one is not possible without the other; and
2. A ministry which empowers our members to work actively toward peace with justice. This declaration will be implemented through spiritual witness, education, stewardship of resources, organizing and action. (Adopted June 1988)
The church declares itself to be an Open and Affirming Church. We seek to be a community of Christian believers and as our name suggests, we are challenged to respect and work through one another's differences. As Paul wrote to the Galatians, " In Christ there is no longer Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for all are one" ... (Galatians 3:28)
We welcome all individuals and families, be they heterosexual, lesbian, gay, bisexual, - be they single parents, couples, nuclear, blended and step-parents - as they strive to function faithfully in response to Gospel of Jesus Christ and Christ's principles of love and justice, grace and mercy. Such faithfulness is a response to God's Spirit and is guided by responsibility, accountability, trust and mutual nurturance.
We acknowledge God's gift of sexuality with it's joyous power and challenging mystery. We believe that people of all sexual orientations share the worth that comes from being unique individuals created by God. We will continue to reach out to those who feel they have been exiled from their spiritual community or the community at large.
The Community Church of Atascadero, California, United Church of Christ, declares itself to be open and affirming of women and men of all ages, races, abilities and sexual orientation who desire to share in its services, its leadership and its activities.
(Adopted February 2004)

We welcome individuals and families of all ages, races, abilities, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression as they strive to function faithfully
in response to the gospel of Jesus Christ’s principles
of love, peace, justice, grace and
compassion.
God is still speaking.
At the Community Church of Atascadero
we believe that
Whoever you are, and wherever you are
on life's journey,
You are welcome to worship with us.
We are an Open and Affirming, Peace with Justice Church.
